Create a Social Media Account
Part 6 of the Digital Foundations series
Be findable. Be followable.
You don’t need to be on every platform. But you do need to show up somewhere, clearly, professionally and consistently.
This guide walks you through creating a simple, on-brand social media account that matches your email and Google profile.
Pick one platform to start
Choose the platform that:
- Your audience already uses
- Matches how you want to show up (video, photos, text)
- You’ll actually maintain
✅ Good bets:
- Instagram – visual businesses (hairdressers, personal trainers, cafés)
- Facebook – local services and older demographics
- LinkedIn – B2B and personal brand building
- TikTok – short-form, viral content (works great for trades too)
Create a professional handle and name
Your handle should be simple, memorable and match your brand.
✅ Do:
- Use your exact business name or a close match
@SpaceshipServices
or@spaceship.ie
- Use the same name, logo and bio across platforms
❌ Avoid:
- Numbers or weird symbols (e.g.
@spaceship1234
) - Random usernames you made years ago
Set up your profile details
Make sure these are polished and consistent with your other online profiles:
- Display name (matches your business name)
- Bio – one or two lines that say what you do and who you help
Personal training for busy professionals in Dublin.
- Profile photo – logo, clear headshot or the front of a physical business (eg. shopfront)
- Business category (on Facebook/Instagram)
Post a few things before sharing
Don’t invite people to follow a blank page.
Post 2–3 things first:
- A welcome post introducing yourself or the business
- A photo of your work, space or product
- Something helpful or behind the scenes
This gives your profile some life when people land on it.
Link it everywhere
Once it’s set up:
- Add it to your email signature
- Connect it to your Google Business Profile
- Use the same @handle on other platforms (if you make them)
Social media = social proof
People check your socials before buying, booking or messaging.
Make sure what they see is:
- Accurate
- On-brand
- Updated (at least occasionally)
