Create Consistent Branding

Create Consistent Branding

Part 3 of the Digital Foundations series

Look real. Look reliable.

Your branding is how people recognize and remember you, from your name and logo to your colours and tone of voice. If those things aren't consistent across your website, social media, Google profile and invoices, your business looks scattered and unprofessional.

This guide helps you lock down a basic brand identity that feels clear, confident and consistent.

Why branding matters (even for small businesses)

Branding isn't about fancy logos or corporate design guides. It's about recognition and trust.

When your name or logo changes from platform to platform, people get confused.

Good branding makes you look:

  • Professional
  • Legitimate
  • Memorable

Pick a single name and stick to it

Are you Spaceship Services, Space ship Services Ltd or SpaceShip.com?

Pick one and use it everywhere.

✅ Do:

  • Use the same name across your email, website, Google, social media and printed materials
  • Choose a name that's simple, unique, and easy to remember

❌ Avoid:

  • Switching between abbreviations, legal names and trading names
  • Adding unnecessary words like “Ltd” unless legally required

Choose a logo and colour scheme

You don't need to hire a designer. But you do need a logo and some consistent colours.

Start simple:

  1. Use a free tool like Looka, Canva, or Hatchful to create a logo.
  2. Pick 2-3 colours and use them on your website, profile pictures, and images

✅ Tip: Save your logo as a transparent PNG and as a square icon. Use the same one on every platform.

Align your tone and writing style

Are you friendly and casual? Or formal and professional?

Pick a tone and stick with it.

That means:

  • Similar writing style across your bio, About page and Instagram captions
  • Using the same phrases to describe what you do

Do a branding sweep

Go through all your major online platforms and check:

  • ✅ Same business name
  • ✅ Same logo and profile picture
  • ✅ Same tone of voice
  • ✅ Same colour palette (where possible)

Include:

  • Google Business Profile
  • Website
  • Email signature
  • Invoices / quotes
  • Directories (Golden Pages, Yelp, etc.)

What's next?

Down the line, you might hire a designer, commission a logo or build a full brand identity.

But for now? Just keep things consistent. Same name, same colours, same vibe - across your website, email, socials and Google profile. That alone will make you look 10x more professional.
